I was asked: "What is the Sonatina 'Three Moments' about? About what...? Of course, sounds are so powerful that they can tell any story, but do you always have to hide behind a programme? After all, music has its own "programme", which consists, among other things, of formal structure, melody, harmony, texture, style and many other elements in which the essence of music is contained. So? I was asked: "What is the Sonatina 'Three Moments' about? About what...? Of course, sounds are so powerful that they can tell any story, but do you always have to hide behind a programme? After all, music has its own "programme", which consists, among other things, of formal structure, melody, harmony, texture, style and many other elements in which the essence of music is contained. So? In terms of the "programme" understood in this way, the Sonatina "Three Moments" Op. 30 consists of three movements: "Morning", which has the structure of a sonata allegro showing the "rivalry" of two contrasting themes, "Afternoon" - a lyrical story with syncopated rhythms, and "Evening", in which nocturne arpeggios exchange with chordal groups of a dance character. The different parts of the piece have different textures and different tonalities, but the melody comes to the fore and leads the main musical action. The piece features various types of articulation and guitar technique to emphasize the musical expression. Sonatina is accessible in terms of technical level, and having such a varied "programme" it may be attractive for guitarists looking for new repertoire. However, if one absolutely wanted to explore Sonatina's extra-musical programme, one should imagine someone in their teens falling in love for the first time! "Three Moments" shows a comparable emotional and energetic charge accompanying a young man in his first, great feeling... This is what Sonatina is about.
